The story behind 'Soleil Royal'
'Soleil Royal' was a French ship of the line with 104 guns, and was the flagship of Admiral Tourville. The ship was built in Brest between 1668 and 1670, and after a period of dormancy the ship was recommissioned in 1688 with 112 guns and 1200 men on board. The ship's decorations were among the most beautiful and detailed of all Baroque ships, and the sun symbol ('Soleil') was chosen by Louis XIV as his personal symbol.
Details about the kit
The kit includes hundreds of laser-cut plywood and solid wood parts, as well as all moulded and photo-etched parts. Also included is a complete set of pre-cut sails, ready to be placed on the model. In addition, twelve figures of the 'Soleil Royal' crew are included, which can be assembled and painted to add even more realism to the model.
