History of the Fram ship
Framskipet was a prominent Norwegian ship designed to withstand the extreme conditions of the polar expeditions at the end of the nineteenth century. Built in 1892, its reinforced design enabled it to venture into the inhospitable regions of the Arctic and Antarctic. Under the command of the famous Fridtjof Nansen Fram reached latitudes never before explored and was key in the search for new routes through the ice. The ship later served in the expeditions of the explorer Otto Sverdrupwho mapped uncharted territories in Northern Canada, and the legendary Roald Amundsenwho, with his help, became the first man to reach South Pole i 1911.
Thanks to its achievements, Fram is recognised as one of the most famous polar exploration vessels in history.
