History:
This is a model of the sixth ship named Esmeralda. The ship was launched on 12 May 1953 in front of an audience of 5,000 people. It was christened by Mrs Raquel Vicuña de Orrego with a bottle of champagne wrapped in the national colours of Spain and Chile. The ship was delivered as a four-masted topsail schooner to the Government of Chile on 15 June 1954 under the command of Captain Horacio Cornejo Tagle.
